Bali Visa Extension in 2026: New In-Person and Biometric Rules

Staying in Bali beyond your first 30 days is common, and extending is straightforward once you know the current rules. Two changes in 2026 catch people out, so let us clear them up.

Extensions are now in person

The fully online extension route ended in mid 2025. Today, an extension involves at least one visit to an immigration office. Your application is lodged, then you attend in person for the biometric step, and you collect the approval afterwards. We handle the lodging and scheduling on our how to extend a Bali visa guide.

Biometrics are mandatory

Since 2025, most visa holders must give biometric data, a photo and fingerprints, when extending. This applies to tourist visas, the VOA and e-VOA, and several other categories. It is quick, but it does mean you cannot extend entirely by post or online anymore.

Timing matters

Start your extension about a week before your current visa expires. Leaving it to the last day risks an overstay, which carries a daily fine. If you are already close to your expiry date, our same day service can help you move quickly.

What it costs and how long it lasts

A tourist extension adds another 30 days, taking you to 60 days in total. Fees vary by visa type and whether you use an agent, and using an agent usually means fewer trips to the office and less waiting. We give you a clear quote up front with no surprises.
